Bedrock Plank A Table by Riva1920 by Green Living handmade in Italy
An exceptional dining table that combines simplicity with ingenuity. To achieve the full width of the two adjacent planks, the board is not cut in the middle as usual. To use the board in this way, very careful wood treatment is necessary.
Riva1920 takes the time to store the full logs on their own premises for a long time. After the first rough cut, they are stored a second time. Finally, a third storage area is set up in the workshop. In this way, the "consent" of the wood for the unusual construction of this table is gently obtained. On the outside, one feels the anatomy of the natural tree edge, in the middle, in contrast, the parallel joint is left with a small gap.
The base is made of raw, solid iron, handcrafted and oiled to prevent rust. Viewed from the side, the tabletop appears to float, as the base looks very delicate in profile. In this design, the archaic is naturally combined with lightness and modernity. This table was designed for Riva by star architect Terry Dwan, who runs her office in Milan with Antonio Citterio.
Construction
Solid oak or walnut planks are fastened to a pure iron frame and taper to a point at the end. The iron frame is hand-forged and waxed.
