Initial Considerations
In Germany, approximately 7 million tons of furniture end up as bulky waste each year. The renewed production of one kilogram of particleboard releases nearly 350 grams of CO2.
Many people buy new furniture with every move. The industry suggests that only those who follow "fashion" have contemporary furnishings – so new furniture is needed every year.
The immense burden on the environment is obvious. Worldwide, uncontrolled logging occurs on an unimaginable scale. Habitats are irreversibly destroyed. In our Western world, we have a buyer's market. This means that since supply exceeds demand, customers can influence the supply through their purchasing behavior.
Thus, it is partly in your hands and ours to contribute to environmental relief.
What can be done?
Experts consistently advise: ask about the origin of furniture, demand information on its contents. Look for single-material products (for later recycling). Avoid plastics (almost all of which are made from petroleum derivatives). Specifically ask for recycled products. Buy durable products (design and quality contribute to this). Prefer oiled surfaces over lacquered ones. Especially the last point directly benefits you personally: harmful emissions in your rooms will not be unnecessarily increased!
It is precisely according to these criteria that we have put together our product range for you. We hope you enjoy your new furniture from Green Living!
