Solid Wood Table E8
Solid Wood Table E8
E8 Solid Wood Table by Zeitraum
Mathias Hahn, the designer of the E8, had the prototype for this design in his kitchen for years. It was a makeshift table from the post-war period, assembled from different woods. Its distinguishing features: narrow, long, and with overhangs. The current design was also named after its origin, as E8 stands for the postal code (East 8) of his former residence in London.
The E8 solid wood table convinces with its narrowness, length, and extreme overhangs at the ends. The combination of the colored underside with the natural oak surface makes this table unique. "The contrast between color and wood transforms the tabletop into a two-dimensional surface, simultaneously emphasizing its character as a utilitarian surface," says Mathias Hahn.
Choose the table in
a) color-stained version: underside and frame made of oak treated with the desired color stain, tabletop is natural oak, lacquered.
b) American walnut: oiled, no color stain
c) Oak: oiled, no color stain
Color Stain
With stains, the natural structure of the wood remains visible. This was particularly important for ZEITRAUM, as the furniture pieces are unique due to the natural grain and color play of the wood. The typical semi-transparent appearance of the color stain ensures that this is preserved. ZEITRAUM puts a lot of effort into the surface treatment, which requires artisanal finesse and cannot be applied automatically. Many individual steps of sanding, wetting, drying, staining, and re-drying lead to the perfect end result, which is extremely durable. The microstructure of the wood is grainy, which makes the stained wood appear naturally matte and capable of developing a patina despite its coloration.
ZEITRAUM developed the color palette in collaboration with the design studio Formstelle. Nature served as a model for the gray nuances, more precisely, the weathering-related graying stages of wood. The vibrant accent colors are used specifically to create contrasts.
