Sustainable Solid Wood Bed—What's Important?
Share
Sustainable solid wood bed – what matters?
Sustainability is a much-used term – but what does it really mean? We break down the most important points for you.
1. Raw Materials & Manufacturing: Certificates and Regionality
The most important certificates are PEFC and especially FSC. FSC works like an accounting system: all manufacturers and intermediaries must register wood quantities separately and document them without gaps – which makes fraud much more difficult.
Equally important is regionality: short transport routes save CO₂ and make the supply chain more traceable. This is exactly how we work at Green Living.
2. Design, Production & Shipping
Good sustainable design means: material purity. Products should consist of a single material – no mix of wood, plastic, and metal – so that recycling truly works in the end.
In production, we focus on fair wages, occupational safety, and regulated working hours. That's why we deliberately avoid many suppliers outside Western Europe. For shipping, we rely on cardboard instead of styrofoam or film.
3. In Use: Durability & Repairability
A truly sustainable bed is durable, timeless, and easily repairable. This sounds obvious – but it isn't. Those who opt for quality buy new less often, thus conserving resources and their wallets.
